Where are you from?
Appleton, Wisconsin

What was your first job?
At 15, I got a job working the concession stand at a local movie theater. You can’t find a better perk than free movies!

Do you have any hobbies?
These days, between my professional and familial obligations, it’s tough to find time for hobbies. However, you can usually find me watching either the Packers, Bucks or Brewers. Oh, and I collect baseball cards (much to my wife’s chagrin).

What is something on your bucket list?
Skydiving.

Why did you become an attorney?
I’m a problem solver and a people person by nature. Although most of my clients are not people in the traditional sense, I enjoy learning about, understanding their problems, and then devising strategies to solve those problems. For me, few things are as satisfying as delivering a good result for a client.

What does a typical workday look like for you?
In our litigation practice, there is no typical workday. Some days, I’m jumping from conference call to conference call. Others, I’m writing a brief, deposing a witness, arguing a motion in court, or attending a mediation. And then there are days that require me to drop what I’m doing and respond to an emergency for a client. It is one of the most fun yet challenging aspects of our practice.

Why did you choose your areas of practice?
One word: variety. In our litigation practice, I’ve handled everything from complex coverage issues and bad faith to ski hill collisions, dog bites, and exploding air compressors.

What is your biggest achievement, professional or personal?
My biggest achievement is both personal and professional. I am the first and only member of my family to graduate from college, which set me on the path toward law school and a career as a litigator.

What is your favorite thing about MTFN?
My favorite thing about MTFN is the across-the-board commitment to providing the firm’s clients with top notch legal services. No matter whether you’re consulting on tax issues, working on real estate deals, putting together an estate plan, or representing a client in litigation, every single person in the firm is dedicated toward delivering the best counsel possible. You have to respect and admire that.

What has been the most impactful advice you have received about practicing law?
The most impactful advice I’ve received about practicing law came from a current colleague and it’s simply that: we are practicing law. As a young lawyer, the things you don’t know can be overwhelming and mistakes (both strategic and procedural) are inevitable. All you can do is show up the next day with a desire to grow and learn from the last. If you’re committed to improving, odds are that you will.
