Brian M. Cooley is an attorney in Meissner Tierney’s transactional practice group. Brian advises clients in the areas of business organization, business and corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate.
Where are you from?
I was born in California and raised in North Carolina and Texas before settling in Wisconsin in 1999. I currently live in Menomonee Falls.
What was your first job?
I did IT Support and light graphics work for a small television production company.
Do you have any hobbies?
When not spending time with my wife and son, I read fiction, play chess, and turn our kitchen into a mad scientist’s laboratory.
What is something on your bucket list?
I want to continue crossing interesting destinations off my travel list; future destinations include New Zealand and Germany.
Why did you become an attorney?
Helping businesses accomplish their goals. I’ve been on the small business path and know how difficult it can be without assistance.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
There really is no typical in my practice. Some days I’m working on an acquisition or three, and others I’m tackling employee separations or lease agreements. Setting aside five to ten minutes each morning for organization helps my workflow immensely.
Why did you choose your areas of practice?
Inertia and experience. I don’t see any reason to change your actions if you enjoy them.
What is your biggest achievement, professional or personal?
Building a happy and loving family.
What activities do you participate in outside of the firm (professional)?
I belong to the American Bar Association, Wisconsin Bar Association, and the Milwaukee Bar Association.
What is your favorite thing about MTFN?
Every day is different, and I can find a unique challenge without significant effort.
What has been the most impactful advice you have received about practicing law?
Give it time; nobody has the answers right away. Keep getting better daily, week to week, and you’ll eventually be a fine attorney.
